Faith Under Fire - Afghanistan
Kevin always thought through each and every decision that he made and he knew the seriousness of some of those decisions. We knew when he had made the decision to join the military that he had spent time thinking it through and that he knew what it meant when he signed his name that morning of July 26, 2007.
We likewise knew when he made the decision to accept Christ as his Savior that he had spent time thinking it through. We knew Kevin had thought about the many Scripture verses he had read; about the many sermons he had heard and about the many talks he had with our Pastor at Paddock Lake Baptist Church. So, at the age of 12 when Kevin made the decision to accept Christ, there was no doubt he had made this decision with a clear understanding of his need for a Savior. And after making that decision, he also wanted to make it public and was baptized during the summer of 1994.
While Kevin was in basic training, he attended the chapel services on base. Periodically they would have different speakers and we remember Kevin talking specifically about his 1st Sgt preaching at a number of the services. How thankful we were to know that during this time that God had placed Kevin under the influence of men who had a heart for the Lord.
There is no greater comfort given to us than having the knowledge that Kevin had made this decision. There is also no greater comfort than knowing that one day we will see him again. We have this assurance because of God’s Word – Psalm 119:60 says “Thy Word is true from the beginning: and every one of Thy righteous judgments endureth forever.”
There are many verses in the Bible about Salvation and it is our prayer that if you have not made that decision to be saved; the following verses will be of some help in understanding your need for a Savior. If you have any further questions about Salvation, please contact us, or visit our Church’s website.
John 3:16 “For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son that whosoever believeth in Him should not perish but have evearlasting life.”
Acts 16:31 “Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved…”
Romans 3:23 “For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God.”
Romans 10:9-10 “That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised Him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.”
Romans 10:13 “For whosoever shall call upon the Name of the Lord shall be saved.”
Romans 10:17 “So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the Word of God.”
There is a verse that says “No greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends.” John 15:13. We are thankful that Jesus laid down His life for us.
Thank you for spending time reading about Kevin’s faith. May God richly bless you and your family.
